紫外线吸收剂是一种光稳定剂，能吸收阳光及荧光光源中的紫外线部分，而本身又不发生变化。塑料和其他高分子材料在日光和荧光下，因紫外线的作用，产生自动氧化反应，导致聚合物的降解而劣化，使外观及机械性能变坏。加入紫外线吸收剂后可选择性地吸收这种高能量的紫外线，使之变成无害的能量而释放或消耗。由于聚合物的种类不同，使其劣化的紫外线波长也不相同，不同的紫外线吸收剂可吸收不同波长的紫外线，使用时，应根据聚合物的种类选择紫外线吸收剂。

Ultraviolet absorber is a light stabilizer that absorbs the ultraviolet part of sunlight and fluorescent light source, but it doesn't change itself. Plastics and other polymer materials in the sun and fluorescence, due to the effect of ultraviolet radiation, the production of automatic oxidation reaction, resulting in degradation of the polymer degradation and deterioration of the appearance and mechanical properties. Because of the different kinds of polymers, the ultraviolet wavelengths of the degradation are different. 紫外线吸收剂应该具备以下条件：①可强烈地吸收紫外线（尤其是波长为290-400nm）；②热稳定性好，即使在加工中也不会因热而变化，热挥发性小；③化学稳定性好，不与制品中材料组分发生不利反应；④混溶性好，可均匀地分散在材料中，不喷霜，不渗出；⑤吸收剂本身的光化学稳定性好，不分解，不变色；⑥无色、无毒、无臭；⑦耐浸洗；⑧价廉、易得；⑨不溶,或难溶于水。

Ultraviolet absorbents should have the following conditions: (1) strong absorption of ultraviolet (especially wavelength 290-400nm); 2. 紫外线吸收剂用于塑料、涂料、染料、汽车挡风玻璃、化妆品、药物、防晒剂等。
